Expert opinions sought on Suffolk/Norfolk locations (or other south coast locations)

I’d like to move out of London to Suffolk or Norfolk and I just don't know what areas are worth looking at or worth avoiding. I know from say Orford to Thorpeness but they are just very pricey. And I know some of the Norfolk coastal areas - ditto, so I think we’ll have to be inland.

We to be near a decent train line as we both need to get into London once or twice a week. Kids are grown up so I don’t need schools or anywhere big but I’d like the location to be attractive to them so they’ll come to visit Smile - so, decent pubs/near the coast or broads etc. And we’d like a big plot so that we could have one of those garden cabins for when they do stay.

Any ideas?

Hmm if you want to be near to a train for London you’d need to be looking around Diss, Stowmarket, Norwich really. The coast is about 45 mins from any of those. But - all the train lines are very unreliable and quite rubbish to be honest! We moved from London to the Suffolk border thinking we’d use the train quite regularly but it’s so unreliable and takes much longer than they advertise due to delays / changes etc. You’re lucky if it goes to plan! Of course this is fine for a leisurely day out but not if you’re relying on it to get you there at any particular time, especially on a weekend.

Area wise... if you don’t mind a short drive to the train station look at Beccles, Bungay, Halesworth and areas around Diss. Stowmarket is slightly rougher in certain areas.

We moved to framlingham in 2019 - and its lovely. 30 mins to coast, train to london from stowmarket 30 mins away takes 1hr 15 mins. Woodbridge is bigger and also lovely but a bit pricier.

Thanks both. So: Diss, Beccles, Bungay, Halesworth and Framlingham - that gives me plenty to go on. I think Norwich and Woodbridge maybe won’t be ‘country’ enough....but I could look at smaller places around them.

Now we can travel I must get geared up to come down to spend the weekend driving around.
