Wood flooring

I was looking at solid wood flooring for our house. I liked the idea that it could be sanded down many more times than engineered wood flooring, and therefore would likely outlast us. I received a sample of some solid wood flooring though (tongue and groove), and realised you can't sand below the groove, so it basically has the same sand-able thickness as engineered.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Or nailing down solid wood flooring in the style of original wood flooring to get around this problem?

All the wood flooring I have found seems to be tongue and groove, and it's making me re-think whether we do this or try to find reclaimed wood flooring to complement the original wood flooring we already have.
