Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced surveyor in north London? We're buying a house in Muswell Hill and have decided to get a building survey for peace of mind. We have no reason to believe there's anything wrong with the place, but of course we can't be sure. The quotes we've had so far vary wildly (between ~£800 and ~£3000, plus VAT), and we'd obviously rather go for a cheaper one if we can expect a similar quality of survey either way, but we just don't know how this kind of thing works. Do there tend to be large differences in quality? If so, are they generally correlated with price? I'd be very grateful for any recommendations for good, thorough surveyors, ideally at the lower end of the price range, and any pointers for things to watch out for when choosing.
