How to fix this door handle/joiner needed?

Hi all, I moved into a property recently and most door handles were loose. Managed to tighten them up and then my bedroom handle fell off one day. See attached the state of the wood etc - I have no idea how to go about fixing this - I am a DIY beginner.

Can anyone advise on how I could so this myself or if a joiner needed?

You don't need a joiner. Don't know what handles they are but can you turn the screwplate slightly to make new holes. Or maybe use two part woodfiller in the holes and re-screw back.

Put a but of a matchstick in each hole and then screw back on.
