Replacing Polycarbonate Roof on Conservatory

My elderly DM has a small conservatory which I would guess is approx 12' x 10' which she loves to sit in to do her puzzles and snooze in during the afternoons 😀 The conservatory is 20 years old now and is in very good condition apart from the roof which is now brittle and needs replacing. We had one quote from the local company who originally installed the conservatory and they have quoted her £6,000 to replace the polycarbonate roof with the same.

My DM only has a small amount of savings and lives on her pension and cannot afford this. I have arranged for two more companies to come and give her a quote.

Has anyone else replaced a small conservatory roof and would be able to give me a rough idea of how much we should expect to pay? The conservatory only cost £10,000 when she had it installed so £6,000 seems ridiculous for a new roof!

We had a slightly larger conservatory roof replaced on our old house three summers ago (south east, not London). It cost £6k and we went for glass. The reduction in noise when it rains was immediate, and it was warmer in cold weather (although not warm).

We went with a local double glazing company.

Thanks @SlidesAndLadders that's really interesting. Perhaps the quote wenhad wasn't so far out then. I think glass would be great but DM doesn't have the funds to run to that unfortunately.
