Is this estate agent being rubbish? WWYD?

Offer accepted 6 days ago and we reverted immediately with solicitors details. Haven't yet received memos of sale although he said he would send them 'as soon as he had solicitors details.' We have since been in touch with some requests for information needed to put in our mortgage application (which would be contained by the memos of sale) and received back some clearly incorrect information plus some questions not answered. Follow-up request for clarification has not been answered.

Upon phoning the office, it turns out the EA works part-time, so hopefully he's just been out of the office and we're not being screwed around, but is this unreasonably slow? Or are we being too impatient? I assume the mortgage application takes a bit of time (and needs to be done before conveyancing stuff can start?) so it's infuriating not to be able to get the ball rolling.

In this situation, would it be reasonable/wise to reach out to the sellers with our contact details and suggest we communicate directly to resolve minor questions, so avoiding these kinds of delays, or is that a bad idea?

FTB so we're clueless!

Lol

Speaking as an estate agent, they would hate you if you contacted the seller directly... you might need their help later with the sale so it would be better not to piss them off

Ring the estate agent, ask them what the delay is

Perhaps the seller hasn't provided them with their solicitors details yet, maybe they are getting quotes and trying to decide. Perhaps it's the seller being painfully slow.

Or perhaps the agent is still waiting for chain details I.e. your chain details or the chain details for above. Some agents have an expected exchange and completion timeframe on the memos, they can't predict a timeframe without knowing the chain

Or maybe they're just useless

Ring them and ask what they're waiting for because your keen to get things moving.

@RaeRaeMama thanks, this is good to know! It's definitely not waiting on their solicitors details because he already told us what firm they're using (unless they changed their minds). The sellers need to get an offer on a place but they shouldn't need that finalized before he can send us the memos of sale should they? We have rung several times and not got through yet, which partly explains the frustration, but I will try to be patient!
