Do you love your dishwasher?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/04/2021 19:54

I need a new one and a decent one. Large family so need it to work hard and be robust. Messed up the last choice and it only lasted 18 months and I don't want to make to same mistake again.

We can see this thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best dishwasher page with plenty of great options that are loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

what's with the drying?

do not all dishwashers dry properly?
ours leaves everything bone dry, we had it so long I don't know what expectations are anymore.

Silkiescat · 15/04/2021 07:46

Yes, but DH isn't new or robust, he works hard and has lasted well so far though. Grin I did buy a dishwasher but it has just sat in a box as DH says he doesn't want to be redundant.

I’m confused by this as well. Every one we’ve ever had drys well - including our current 9 year old £190 Indesit!

When I bought my first dishwasher around 15 years ago I went to Curries and asked for their cheapest one. Without going to the basement I've no idea what make it is but maybe something like Beko and cost about £200 I think.
It's used once or twice a day, has not once broken down or let me down and has survived three house moves and being in storage for six months.
A member of staff in Currys advised me that he always buys the cheapest of white goods now as they usually have similar life spans. So that's what I now do and Yes I love my dishwasher!

Another Bosch fan. Ours must be 16+ years old (moved house with it 11yrs ago and I'm sure we had it 5yrs before that) and it has never once broken down/gone wrong. It cleans brilliantly too. On the strength of that, I'd go Bosch again when it dies.

I think key to the long life of a dishwasher is keeping on top of keeping the filter clean and running a maintenance wash every so often to clean the pipes/arms out. We used to use dishwasher cleaner, but now we just bung soda crystals in the tablet dispenser which does exactly the same thing for a fraction of the cost.

Miele

Oblomov21 · 15/04/2021 16:49

More than life itself. It's called dishy. I didn't have one for years, until recently, and all my friends teased me. I told Dh when we had a new kitchen that it was my number one priority. He can't see the attraction. Now it's my favourite thing in the house.

FurierTransform · 15/04/2021 22:42

+1 to Bosch.
The top end stuff like Miele just isn't worth the additional cost anymore IMO. The quality is down, the service just isn't there (check the more recent reviews on Trustpilot...)so you can be left with significant downtime, costly to repair.
A £500 Bosch will be really good, last a long time, & if/when it does fail, just get another delivered next day.

Furball · 16/04/2021 09:42

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat - We bought the Bosch SMS46MI01G so very similar model number to yours quoted.

We bought it in October and there was a very limited choice on what was actually available at that time, as we ideally wanted integrated.

Overall though it washes well and I do most on the 44 minute programme no problem.

My only gripe is the cutlery tray doesn't allow you to put taller glasses in the rack underneath but I have now bought spikes to go on the prongs on the lower basket and when I need to I just shove those on.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/04/2021 14:55

Thanks this is all really helpful, the one we are looking at has a cutlery basket as that's my preference. Will be ordering tomorrow so will let you know how we get on.

Bosch fan too

Dontevenstart · 18/04/2021 08:52

Miele. Trustpilot don’t know what they’re on about. Trust Which. Trust Miele.

lovelyupnorth · 18/04/2021 14:11

We had a Bosch for years at our last house

When we moved wanted a cheapish one as will replace the Kitchen got a Beko off a which recommendation and it's awesome. Really impressed by it.

Historytoo · 18/04/2021 14:18

We have a Bosch too and it's great. After many years of not having a dishwasher we love it. It's affectionately known as Gunther, which may be taking things too far...

Purplewithred · 18/04/2021 14:23

@jackstini me too - would never go back

thelegohooverer · 19/04/2021 07:32

Another Bosch lover. We had one for 12 years that we replaced with a whirlpool. We changed our kitchen and integrated the dishwasher so had to replace the whirlpool. I’m delighted to have a Bosch again.

However, the salesman warned me off a particular series which he claimed weren’t of the same quality. I can’t remember if they had outsourced manufacture or replaced a metal component with plastic (I’ve ordered a lot of new appliances recently and forgotten a lot of detail) but it might be worth having a chat with a supplier before you order.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 19/04/2021 10:23

Yep, another Bosch owner. I love ours but it's only a slimline one.

I was also slightly dubious about the cutlery tray vs a basket but much prefer having the tray. I think bits of food are less likely to get lodged plus you can put all knives side by side etc. and then just gather up the handful together when emptying.

Lilalulu · 19/04/2021 11:46

Mine is an Electrolux and yes I love it! 12 years old; had to have the door catch repaired once but otherwise no problems. It cleans everything brilliantly. When it wears out I will get one that also dries the dishes!

MarshaBradyo · 19/04/2021 11:47

Yes last one was very average but Miele this time and really very happy we got it

Lilalulu · 19/04/2021 11:48

NewYearNewTwatName Mine doesn't dry. There was an option to have the same model with a drier but I thought it woudl be more eco-friendly (and save money) not to! It is annoying though to have to dry dishes. The plates and cups normally dry just from letting the steam rise off them, but plastic and non-stick stuff is always dripping.

mumdone · 19/04/2021 21:01

We have 2!! They are Bloomberg. Have a 5 year guarantee. Seem ok. I have had Bosch, hotpoint and one other. I liked the hotpoint one.

hoping2016 · 19/04/2021 21:17

love mine to bits!!! Neff here with cutlery tray...love the tray too!!

didireallysaythat · 19/04/2021 22:20

More than my first born

Muststopeating · 20/04/2021 15:47

@didireallysaythat

More than my first born
This made me snort!!! Grin I can survive without many things in life but the 3 months where I didn't have a dishwasher were a dark dark time.

We will also be putting two in our new kitchen (and if that doesn't give you an insight into my utter hatred of washing up then nothing will)

Bigsighall · 20/04/2021 16:52

A Cooke and Lewis one and it’s crap...
You just have one job Mr Dishwasher... how can you do it so badly!!!!
