Packing service

Hi,

All being well we'll be moving in a couple of months, we know we want to use a packing service and have a couple of firms in mind.
Can anyone tell me what happens on packing/moving day? At the new house?
What about food in the fridge/freezer they move?
Do they disassemble furniture or move it assembled where possible?
Thank you!

We moved last year. Packers came Wednesday and Thursday and then we moved Friday.

On the day I kept stuff in one room that we wanted to keep out - personal stuff and some clothes for the first few days etc. We emptied the fridge and freezer (stored it at my mums for the day). They packed the rest up. I filled my car with the bits we wanted separate and we arrived at the new house. Wardrobes etc were kept whole as long as they could be moved in and out - one had to be dissembled to get up the stairs and then rebuilt. My unit from the point went complete with the drawers full.

The line you get here about them packing everything is true - keep your shoes on your feet and don't leave a dirty litter tray by the bin because they'll pack that too. Lovely.

Empty fridge- they can't move it with stuff inside! As pp said keep aside (or put in your car) stuff to get you through first couple days. Furniture depends- whole if possible, in bits if not (beds tend to be broken down).
And they are like locusts- everything but everything will get packed. Dirty nappies, rubbish, etc. So get rid of stuff beforehand- charity dump ebay.
At the other end you can direct what goes where, but there will be a lot of boxes where you have no clue whats in them.
Just hope your new home is clean to accept your stuff!

There's got be a certain amount of work done by you first. Like others say, EVERYTHING will get packed, down to the random paper clip and clothes peg in the cutlery drawer.

I've always just organised like a bitch and packed myself.

Packers are a total godsend.
But they move at the speed of lightning and pack everything.
Do a really thorough declutter before they arrive.
Put important items you want at hand in a laundry basket in your car to stop them getting packed.

This is great thank you, we are clearing out stuff now so that only stuff we want moves.
I'll make sure to put a suitcase in the car with a couple of days of clothes and toiletries.
Best ask a friend near the time if we can borrow some fridge/freezer space Grin
