Interesting things you've uncovered when redecorating

Stripping wallpaper in my living room and discovered the original paint straight onto concrete, brown bottom half, rail, and a lovely grass flower motif! Almost a shame to plaster over it!

When we were redoing the bathroom we found a note written on the joists, just saying hi!

Has anyone else found anything fun?

Would love to see the faces of the family who bought my Grandmothers house in Harrow back in the late 70’s.

She was a very secretive lady and it was only after she had been moved into a care home that she admitted her life savings were actually pasted to the walls of the house, under the wallpaper.

My Dad did try calling round to ask if he could remove the wallpaper and release the dozens of white five / ten pound notes deposited there, but they denied having found any !!

I remember my childhood home, when we stripped the wallper each room had a number with a large cirle drawn around it somewhere on the walls, always in a corner.

Turned out our dad had written them when he first decorated years before to indicate how many rolls of wallpaper each room had taken and had written the number where he put up the last sheet.

I hope the current residents realise what they mean. I just picture them getting increasingly puzzled as they decorate room by room.

No pics but found under some wall paper lots of german lesbian porn pics cut out from mags...it was inside a horrible 70's built in wardrobe..my parents never commented on it...just removed it...we were quite young and curious being appx age 12 and 14.

One of my best friends recently bought and renovated a house I'd lived in as a small child. I recognised wallpaper and tiles and flooring that had been decorated/tiled/panelled over in many rooms. Brought back so many memories

My parents redid their upstairs - a very old house that we think was originally one house split into four and they found the old door going from one house into the other!! I don’t think it actually opened though as it had been sealed up.

Ooh I'm just about to paper one of my rooms, will have to think of something to write underneath for future people as I'm hoping to never do it again while I live here.
