Anyone else waiting to move but there's just NOTHING coming on the market?

I'm beginning to feel despondent, we would like to sell our current house and move to something a bit bigger/detached. We've a good budget and quite flexible on area as long we can get to a station. There is just nothing, literally nothing, suitable coming on the market. It's been this way for months.

We do want something a bit unusual for the area but last year we managed to view 2 houses that ticked some of the boxes. Nothing has come on since last October that has been even close to the right thing.

We've leafleted the handful of likely candidates near us but didn't hear anything back. I'm due a baby in the autumn and beginning to plan for squeezing him/her into our house for goodness knows how long...

We spent a lot to time and money getting our house up to scratch and it's looking great - would be ideal to get it on the market now but it doesn't look like it will be happening.

Anyone else want to flounce off to the corner in a huff with me?

The issue is you don't know how long it will take to sell your house. Or if a house came on that you loved, how quickly would it disappear? It's such a conundrum. If you sell but there's nowhere to go (and you don't want to go into rented), what do you do?

If you wait until something you love comes up, they will want views from proceedable buyers and you will need to sell before you can offer properly.

We saw a house we loved and went on the market - it sold a few days before we were ready and two weeks before our own house sold. It aaaaaages to find something else we liked. It was a horrible feeling thinking we'd have to buy any house that vaguely ticked our boxes rather than getting to 'choose'.

Eventually we did find somewhere - but we haven't exchanged yet, so who knows what will happen.

Know one will do viewings unless you have sold round here. Unfortunately I will only move for my forever house so not prepared to sell unless it’s for a specific house. I don’t think we will move at this rate

Yes it's a bit of a nightmare.

Our estate agent is lined up ready to go and is confident we'll sell in a matter of days so I think if we saw something we loved we'd just have to put in a great offer and tell them we were going on the market ASAP.

The alternative is to sell and rent but there's nothing suitable to rent, and who knows how long we'd be in it anyway since what we want comes up so infrequently...

Aaaaargh!

Thankfully that's not the case here - we're in Scotland so a bit of a different system so buyers are always a mix of sold, unsold, on the market etc. Obviously the sold ones are more attractive but they wouldn't stop you looking at a house just because you hadn't sold.

Yes! It's so frustrating! We've actually got a buyer for our house and expecting to complete within the next 8 weeks or so, all going well. But we haven't seen anything we like. Viewed two today but just not right for us. We're planning to rent for a bit while we wait for the right house though... Fingers crossed!

I have also found that many estate agents aren't doing viewings for people who haven't already got a buyer for their property, but that's in England.

Yes.. desperate to move but if something suitable does come on the market it’s gone within hours (not an exaggeration!) for full asking price. And EA here in Suffolk also not letting people look around if your not ready to go and buy straight away.

I'll keep an eye on the rentals but it's mostly small flats available and we're about to become a family of 5 with 2 cats and 2 X adults working from home (until baby arrives).

What are looking for is really quite niche, only 2 suitable properties came on last year. We have been to see something this weekend because it vaguely ticked some of the boxes but it wasn't right for us. We have a fairly wide search area (commutable to a particular city where we both work when non-covid) and a large budget (up to 900k or so) but high expectations and my husband in particular is quite fussy! We're not tied to particular school catchments or anything and just need to be within an hour or so of family. I think we've opened up our criteria as much as possible but maybe I'll have another think.

It would be great to sell just now while there's a little boom - they've valued our house at a lot more than we expected so would be good to capitalise on that while we can!

Hmm. Fingers crossed something comes up for everyone waiting!
