Detached house for £600 out of London with train link

Hello,
We are in North London and priced out for our first detached home for a budget around £600k. I know that we can get some nice terraced or semis within this range in outer London but we prefer detached. We have been thinking to move away to some quieter place with train link to London. What we need is some amenities such as grocery stores within walking distance and a secondary school.

We are flexible to move to any place as long as it's quiet and good residential area with some amenities and train link to London.

I've been doing a lot of searches but can't seem to get anywhere closer to what we are looking for.

Can anyone suggest some good places for us?

Thanks

This cottage by the river in Ewell is really cute. Downstairs bathroom though, but space to extend.

Move to Folkestone - we love to travel and the tunnel is ten minutes from our front door so pre-covid we were always hopping over. Plus Ashford is only fifteen minutes and St Pancras 50. We moved out from london three years ago and it was the best move weve ever made. So much going on here for everyone in our family.

How often are you wanting to leave the country?

You could have an incredible house 1-2 hours out of London for £600k so if it's only for holidays I would prioritise life quality for the other 99% of the time

(Obviously if you travel for work every couple of weeks maybe not!)

Cambourne is popular with north londoners moving out, but doesn't have a great deal. Excellent schools, a supermarket, a hotel, couple of cafes - but that is about it. There may be a train station there in the future. Currently 15 mins drive to St Neots for the train

And the highest crime rate in Cambridgeshire. Damn you mentioning Godmanchester!

OP sounds like a ‘cunt’ because she thinks Northern weather wouldn’t suit her? Really? Hmm

The villages surrounding Leighton Buzzard
/Milton Keynes might work, just a minute train to Euston could get you something like this... www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/78966390#/

It's impossible to advise without knowing the particulars of her educational parameters, really.

I mean, this little beaut is available near Winchester College, under budget, but wouldn't suit a preference for Bash Street Comprehensive, Basingstoke because the buses are a bloody nightmare.

@BlowDryRat

Most of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and north Hertfordshire would work. Ampthill, Flitwick, Hitchin, Milton Keynes, St Alban's, Woburn, the mich-derided but actually not bad Luton... Just not Harpenden.

You'd struggle to get a 3 bed detached for 600k in St Albans! Our tiny terrace is valued at more than that.

Adreinnesarmy · 07/04/2021 22:27

This would tick all your boxes and more as walking distance to sea and glorious countryside as well as outstanding secondaries... www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/96246746#/

Rightmove has got seven detached four beds in St Albans for around £600k. Unsurprisingly they’re all SSTC.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/04/2021 22:32

I did do a search and found one - have SSTC filtered out on Rightmove though.
