Detached house for £600 out of London with train link

Hello,
We are in North London and priced out for our first detached home for a budget around £600k. I know that we can get some nice terraced or semis within this range in outer London but we prefer detached. We have been thinking to move away to some quieter place with train link to London. What we need is some amenities such as grocery stores within walking distance and a secondary school.

We are flexible to move to any place as long as it's quiet and good residential area with some amenities and train link to London.

I've been doing a lot of searches but can't seem to get anywhere closer to what we are looking for.

Can anyone suggest some good places for us?

Thanks

@Evecob

Peterborough easily. My dad used to commute to london for work living there.
Or St Neots, Huntingdon, Bedford ...

East or West?

West is best 😉

Well, East Sussex is beautiful but my impression is that it is a bit more rural than W Sussex- fewer big towns- and further from the main train line to Gatwick/London.

Except Brighton, if that still qualifies as E Sussex. Geographically it sort of is, but I have a feeling it is an independent entity these days!

Maybe just a little less dismissiveness about places/houses that people may happily live in or care about? Might get you a bit further.

Why move out of London? When you can live 16 minutes from Cannon Street ..

There's a 3 bed detached I like about 5 minutes from me in Charlton (yes it needs work but it's a great road/area)

On at 600

Ten minutes from station and less than an hour into King’s Cross.

Sussex. A lot of my friends commute from the coast up to Victoria.

I think you'll have to keep looking.

Chelmsford or the surrounding villages. Train to Liverpool Street 30-40 mins and you could get a 4 bed detached for your budget. It’s a great place to live with lots of good shopping and restaurants but also great countryside around, as well as lovely town centre parks and rivers.

Reading would be ideal.....

Witham, Brentwood or Chelmsford in Essex

MyCatHatesOtherCats · 07/04/2021 19:12

Have a look at Bishops Stortford, Sawbridgeworth and places on the train line from Liverpool St to Cambridge (including Saffron Walden in Essex, Audley End is the nearest station). I think you’d get a modern property for that sort of money and schools are good.

LemonSwan · 07/04/2021 19:14

I pay 775 for a 2 bed an hour north of London by train. I think you’re dreaming. I couldn’t get a 1 bed flat for that price and train tickets would be seriously expensive.

I am less than an hour from London with a 3 bed semi, garage, 10 mins from train station, drive, garden and an outstanding primary school on the road for 195k.

And no sorry I am not telling you where because I want to upsize before the rest of the UK figures out we exist Wink

Rugby. 45 mins to Euston. 4 bed detached for £400k.

fluffythedragonslayer · 07/04/2021 19:18

Somewhere in the Bromley borough?

CagneyNYPD · 07/04/2021 19:22

Tonbridge. Direct train to Gatwick so no going in and out of London. Train to Ashford for the Eurostar.

DarkMatterA2Z · 07/04/2021 19:39

Also convenient for Gatwick.
