Purpose built block of flats or flat in converted house?

Is it better to live in a purpose built block of flats or a house that’s been converted (I.e large Victorian house converted into three flats) or does it make no difference? A few people I know have said purpose built blocks of flats are noisiest due to more neighbours?

I'd prefer a converted house, I think. Especially the garden flat.

Depends. I have seen so many bad conversions of old buildings now personally I would favour purpose built. But then I don't really worry about noisy neighbours (we are the noisy neighbours Blush) but do worry about delivery drivers finding us and whether the utilities and electrics have been properly divided

I’d prefer a converted house I think too. Admittedly I’ve never lived in a purpose built block, just converted houses or office blocks, I just prefer the way older houses look!

Sound insulation in period conversions is often very poor. I lived in flats in houses which were beautiful from the outside, but in one I could hear my upstairs neighbours urinating. And in both even them walking about upstairs was very audible. Purpose built blocks are more likely to have better insulation and concrete floors and ceilings which dampen noise far more than wooden joists.
