Brighton - to go west (lancing/shoreham) or to go east (saltdean)

We used to live in Brighton in the mid 80s when we were kids. A lot has changed since then but one of my siblings, who lives abroad now, is coming back to the UK and looking to move back to the area.

I haven't lived there since the 80s so I'm well out of touch about the local surroundings.

They can see online that they can afford properties but don't particularly want to live near the centre as they would like a garden and parking. I understand her husband has a job in Brighton, she can work from home but will need to go to London occasionally.

Are there issues with flooding in shoreham? Saltdean looks lovely but not sure if it's still v much a place for retired people or whether young families have moved in.

Some years ago I lived in Saltdean and was very happy there. I found getting to London convenient. I checked Ofsted recently and the school is ok and there is room at the high school. The Lido has been restored by the community and gets good use, I believe. Walk or cycle in different directions for open down land or beside the sea into Brighton itself.

I would say West, as better connected to other towns and places of interest eg Arundel/Chichester/Horsham/Worthing

I'm from Brighton, most of my friends that have been priced out of Brighton have got West (Portslade, Worthing) and only a couple have gone East (Both to Rottingdean)

Shoreham is "cooler" I think if you have DC as you can have a really outdoorsy lifestyle and do watersports.

Thanks, that's really helpful. It's quite fun looking for houses for other people and not yourself!

I’m from Brighton but got priced out and went 10 miles north to a village. I’d go to Shoreham. Very hip now and the beach is great
