Brick shed

We will shortly be moving from a 3 bed house to 2 bed bungalow, it is a council property.
When we went to view it we looked in the shed, It was soaking and cobwebby. There isnt any electric to it. It is brick with corrugated roof.
We have stuff we will need to store bike, mobility scooter, lawnmower etc so need to get it into a decent condition.
How do I get it water tight? It could have been condensation. It looked like previous tenants had tried lining the ceiling but it was bulging with water!

Was there any mould?

coldwarenigma · 03/04/2021 13:35

To be honest all the cobwebs put me off looking any closer! Grin it was dripping with water.

If it was condensation it would be covered in mould.

It impossible for anyone to say over the internet if you haven’t even inspected the building properly and can tell us where the water is coming from!

You’d need to check the building for leaks; roof, walls and what is the floor like? Is there any damp-proofing, is it just built up from the soil, are there any areas outside of the building where the ground/soil level is higher than the inside ground level of the building? The bulging ceiling sounds like water coming from above and catching in whatever Elastoplast ‘solution’ the previous owners tried and sounds like a new roof is in order but it’s hard to say without seeing the building.

Thank you...I think I will have to be brave and look a little closer!

Leaking roof sounds likely. If it’s a rental, can the housing association repair it?

BananaPie · 03/04/2021 21:03

Worth finding out if the corrugated roof is asbestos. Asbestos is fine unless damaged, but if it’s leaking it sounds like it might be

Banana Good shout...I'll ask. I'm meeting the council there later this week.
