Has anyone added a covered verandah to their house? We’ve just bought a 1960s bungalow next door to us, in which to install my ageing Dad. We want to put a covered verandah over the patio, to enable him to smoke outside instead of in the house, as much as possible.
I’ve looked at The Traditional Verandah Company and their products look well made, but none of them would really suit the mid century architecture of the bungalow.
Everything I’ve seen with cleaner, more modernist lines looks really cheap and functional. I want to put something on the bungalow that will make it more attractive, not less! It’s not the prettiest house in the world, but I’m hoping that by going with its mid century styling and renovating it with quality materials, in a sympathetic way, it can be made to look reasonably attractive.
DF is feeling a little sad at leaving behind his sea view and period features (although not the stressful maintenance!) so it’s important to me to make this move as appealing as possible.
Any advice or help most appreciated.
