Want to sort the outside of our house, new windows, new front door, roof check and tidy up of the eaves and roofline stuff (soffits?) - not sure what sort of company to ask for a quote? Builders/ window company / someone else? A specialist somehow? Anyone have a clue?! I wondered if builders may get a discount on the windows? Help! Thanks

We are doing all this stuff at the moment.

Some windows not all, just the older ones.

For the roof and soffits etc we had a builder/roofer.

For the door and windows a window company. The builders didn't do windows but they work closely with another company.

The prices were all on point.

Thanks, that makes sense - guess I need to find a builder, suppose he might have recommendations for windows etc...

We've just do similar. Needed roof doing and rendering and windows replacing. fortunately roofer could pull in the other trades and we knew we could trust him to get good guys on the job.

We did specific the window supply & fit, but we were lucky that the roofer knew scaffolders/ k-renderer/ good joiner/ electricians/ decorators to pull the whole thing together. In reality he kind of acted as project manager, and when he said jump they did ( whereas if we had been running it, probably wouldn't have gone quite so smoothly).

thanks @Ifonlyiweretaller - how was it internally replacing the windows? Did you have lots of touching up to do round the frames...
That does sound good with the project manager - I have a feeling we will start with one thing and it will end up being lots of jobs - ie no point replacing the windows if the flat roof bit is shot etc

Hi @bestbefore. There was quite a bit of touching up to be done inside, we got decorators in...and as they were good I kept finding other things for them to whilst here!
You're right though, sometimes you have to think from the top down. With a big spend you really need to think it through and make sure you're doing things in the right order.
Good luck with it all - I'm not sure I'd want to go through it all again...Grin

Good to know thanks! We've had 2 major building projects before and yet still keep going back for more...Confused

We had our windows replaced and I was pleasantly surprised with the lack of mess/dust/disruption. They did the plastering around the windows and we had a decorator in shortly after (although we would've done it if it hadn't been part of an insurance claim)
