Adding shower above bath, easy job?

We’re buying a new build and can pay the developer £1k to add shower above bath (inc full height tiling, electric shower and screen door) but I’m thinking should we just do this ourselves and then I can choose the tiles and screen door I really want? But how much of a faff is it to do yourself? Trying to weigh up the ease of getting them to do versus doing ourselves and having dream bathroom.

Has anyone done this and can help?!

When you say do it yourselves do you mean pick them and then hire tradesmen individually to do the jobs, or buy them and do the actual plumbing & tiling yourself & just get an electrician to do the shower?

Having seen DH plumb our shower in and spend far too long faffing about with tiles (that are less than perfectly fitted) and all the mess it involved I’d pay the money.

Ooh no I’d get professionals in to do it still

So it will be:
Cost of a shower
Cost of screen
Cost of tiles/adhesive/grout
Cost of tiler
Cost of Plumber
Cost of Electrician

Stress of trying to find a plumber who would fit in a small job when he would rather do a full day job somewhere (BIL always does full jobs, hence DH plumbing ours in!)
Co ordinating all trades to come on the right days after the other jobs have been done before their bits can be done. I think it would be quite a faff tbh.

For a grand, definitely get them to do it!
