Garden gym room

Like probably a lot of people, I've got seriously unfit over the last year.

We're considering having a garden gym room built and buying a couple of pieces of equipment for it, rather than going back to the gym when it reopens.

Has anyone had one installed recently, and if so, who did you use, how much did it cost etc? Was it worth the money - do you find yourself using it enough to make it worthwhile?

Our neighbour had one built a year ago, the kids toys look lovely in it and I never see anyone using it as a gym!

We had a garden room installed about 18 months ago. We use it as a living room, I suppose - we just hang out in there, usually in the afternoons. It was amazing last year, we spent loads of time in there. It has a little fridge for drinks, which is nice! But no plumbing. We don't use it in winter.

Ours is double glazed, wired and has heating/air-con, so could be used as a gym. It also could be used as an office.

We got it from Green Retreats. Definitely the more pricey end of garden rooms, but we're really pleased with it.

We bought a log cabin which has electrics but no plumbing. We have a rug, chairs, TV, books etc in there but have mused over adding gym equipment in their too. Ours was around £3k inc installation but not double glazed and bloody cold in winter. Lovely in summer though for entertaining and BBQs etc

@WellTidy do you mind telling me how big your room is?

WellTidy · 23/03/2021 09:27

Yes - it is 4.5m x 3.5m. Wall to wall (pretty much) glass on the front in sliding doors which open from the centre, and a portrait and a small landscape window on one side. Ours is the Edge.

Thank you, everyone, this is all really useful Smile

I built a garden gym 4/5 months ago. It's 5m x 4m room built by AMC Garden Rooms in Cambridge.

It cost in a region of £25k, very expensive but worth it for me.

I've a treadmill & cross trainer only. I use them 4/5 times a week.

I also have my office desk and laptops as I've been working from home for the past 3 years.

My room as an additional height to give me more room during exercise as I'm 6ft tall. The additional height, electricity, internet cost around £3k. Which made up the total cost to £24,700

Thankyou. Sounds amazing. There is no way I have room for anything that big but I can dream!

Nix32 · 23/03/2021 19:56

@StylishMummy Where did you get yours from please?

StylishMummy · 23/03/2021 21:08

@Nix32 mine was from an independent supplier in Warwickshire

Midlifephoenix · 23/03/2021 23:16

You won't use it unless you are a regular gym goer/exerciser. Just because it's close by doesn't make it any more appealing!

I have a tv in my gym area and I just watch neighbours then home and away each evening while I work out, then shower and into pjs for a relaxed evening. Works for me. In summer I go in there for an hour first thing too.

So jealous Envy

This is my dream but my garden is like a postage stamp and we’ve agreed not to move for the next 5 years or so.

I’ve got a playroom to use but I keep tripping over toys mid lunge

My husband had one built a few years ago after our DD was born. His gym in the house became her bedroom so he needed the garden room for his gym equipment. It has been invaluable over lockdown as he has had to work from home.
It cost 13k, it's roughly 3m X 3m has under floor heating. It fits a weights bench, exercise bike plus other bits and pieces as well as his work desk/laptop/chair etc.... We used a local company who cover Kent/Surrey/Sussex and south London.
