Has anyone painted their own house (exterior)?

I am in no way shape or form a professional, but I do really like painting. I find it therapeutic and satisfying.

We last had our house painted 7y ago. It was done as part of a total re-render of the house so don't know how much it cost separately iyswim, but have always it would be an expensive job to get done.

Has anyone done this? Got scaffolding put up but painted themselves? Any tips/ experiences?

We do ours. It’s not tall enough to bother with scaffolding, just have a long stepladder. It’s easy to do if a bit of a grind. A good scrub with fungicidal wash first.

We keep saying we’re going to do one bit a year, but never manage to.

We did ours last year. Only the top half needed painting so there was a certain amount of hassle trying to protect the brick work on the bottom half. I hate heights and my husband isn't much better, but he did the highest parts and I did the lower parts. We had scaffolding and I wouldn't fancy doing it from a ladder. We have used a tower before but the scaffolding was better.

My husband is extremely practical. I am not.

WelcomeMarch I did it 2/3 years ago in Dulux Trade Weathershield, smooth masonry paint.
The colour was mixed for me at my local Jewsons and called Russian Velvet 4 (extra deep base). Think it may be just available in gloss now, but pop into your local suppliers and look at the colour cards for them to mix on site, rather then the bog standard off the shelf colours.
