How long is planning permission taking in your area?

I'm just about to hand mine in and pay the fee tomorrow and wondering how long I can expect to wait for a response. I'm expecting we might be asked to make an amendment which presumably will add to the time....?

Forever.

Submitted our first in October but withdrew it in November as neighbours complained and the planning officer indicated it would be rejected. But from start to finish that was 7 weeks.

Resubmitted middle of December. Still waiting. But should have an answer early next week.

Our planning officer has been doing homeschooling and has been ill though. So maybe it's not that slow for everyone at the moment.

SocksForceFive · 19/03/2021 00:49

Ours came back on the day it was meant to (is it 9 or 10 weeks?)

Decision was due on the Monday, they looked at it for the first time on the Thursday before and requested amendments. They're difficult to get hold of as they're so slammed- email rather than call if you need to contact them.

stardust40 · 19/03/2021 01:01

We are waiting..... usually 3 weeks but apparently 10 weeks at the moment 😱

Espirito · 19/03/2021 02:50

architect says 4 months here. Rent is going to eat up all our budget at this rate Sad

tryingtocatchthewind · 19/03/2021 06:14

In my area it’s bang on the 8 weeks (statutory time limit) but like you say if you need to make amendments and reconsult neighbours it will take longer.

NoTeaForMe · 19/03/2021 08:33

It’s 8 weeks here. They’re sticking to the statutory time limit. Obviously that gets pushed back if amendments are needed.

Anyone know how long after you submit the plans they appear online for everyone to view?

tryingtocatchthewind · 19/03/2021 08:37

@NoTeaForMe that totally depends how fast each individual council’s administration team are at the front end. I know some take just a few days and some take weeks. Also depends if your application is valid (contains all the correct information) as they won’t go online until valid

Africa2go · 19/03/2021 09:30

As I understand it, the 8 week time scale if from "validation" to the decision. Here, it takes weeks from submission of the application to be "validated" so the clock - apparently - hasn't started ticking Angry. We submitted and paid the fee about 3 weeks ago, application still not "validated". Overall therefore, we've been told to expect about 3 months.

tryingtocatchthewind · 19/03/2021 09:49

My authority (and the neighbouring authority) backdate to the date it was submitted and not the date it was validated. That’s really cheeky of the authority. Obviously if it’s not valid then it wouldn’t be backdated

tryingtocatchthewind · 19/03/2021 09:49

Ps. If it’s not obvious I’m a Planning Officer!

Imtoooldforallthis · 19/03/2021 09:53

Ours validated 16th November been told it will be May.

sarahb083 · 19/03/2021 13:39

Ours took about a week longer than the maximum (10 weeks I think?) and we had to chase them to get a response. Then they realised they hadn't given the neighbours a chance to object so there was an extra month delay. 15 weeks in total for a standard one story extension.

irisetta · 20/03/2021 10:35

Another vote for FOREVER! Grin Submitted late October and still waiting... Planning officer just emailed our architect assuring him that the report is in the process of being reviewed now and we should have a decision by the 24th! Crazy...
