Is this carpet fitted correctly?

This week we had all our bedroom carpets replaced but I'm not convinced they've done a good job.

I've attached a couple of photos which don't really show how bad it is but you can see a gap between the edge of the carpet and the skirting board. We've had 4 rooms done and they all have areas like this on most the edges

We're having the rest of the carpets replaced soon and intended to use the same company. We've recently moved in and using the same company we used previously in our old house but it never looked like this.

What do you think? Would you complain?

That's certainly not a good job in my view, have you contacted the company yet? Sorry, it must be disappointing! But don't settle for it, that's a wild gap they've left

Stickytreacle · 14/03/2021 10:06

No, that isn't fitted properly at all. I'd want that replacing, contact the company and send them the pics.

SpacePotato · 14/03/2021 10:15

Looks like the fitter cut the carpet too short. There shouldn't be any gaps.

RainbowCake · 14/03/2021 10:17

That looks wrong to me, all our carpets have been tapped ( there is a special doodah I can't remember the name of) under the skirting board. Yours look like they have been trimmed to the edge so they'll lift at some point when hoovering. I'd complain.

rainbowrainfall · 14/03/2021 10:21

No, I'll call them tomorrow.
I'm so annoyed.
We've just moved in, we've been sleeping on the sofas downstairs for the last 2 weeks with 2 young kids whilst decorating the bedrooms so we can get the carpets done before we take all the furniture up.
Stupidly I didn't check properly, I was so excited to get it done and get the furniture up and sleep in a proper bed!
Now everything's up there and rebuilt it's going to be a nightmare to fix!

I agree, it is not right. I did a better job when I patched in a bit of carpet to replace cat damage!!

iluvpickles · 14/03/2021 10:26

That's a mess. He's cut it too short. Also is there gripper underneath? It doesn't look like it the way it's sitting even in the areas it doesn't look short.

rainbowrainfall · 14/03/2021 10:30

Yes there are grippers, there was already grippers down from the old carpet and they said they were fine to reuse. But it has lifted around the edges in places so I agree, even when it's not short it doesn't sit flat and you can see how uneven it is across the skirting board.

I'm so disappointed, I've always used this firm and never had any problems so didn't thoroughly check!

You shouldn’t need to check, they should be doing a proper fit!
Assuming they did all the measuring?

rainbowrainfall · 14/03/2021 10:39

Yeh, had them out to measure up. They bought samples to my house as showrooms are closed and measured whilst they were here.

There was loads of excess carpet left so it isn't a case of poor measurements etc, it's on all edges so not like he's fell short one side thought he'd try get away with it.

Yes, I'd complain. That's a poor job. I complained about our stair and landing carpet. Stupidly I left DH to check it and they left. When I got in from work and had a look I was horrified. On a few steps it looked frayed where the step met the riser. I emailed photos and they replied immediately saying they'd send someone out to redo it. Which they did,and it was ok, but on the landing there is a big ridge going from edge to edge in one part as if it is slightly too long and it's buckling. This has happened as it's been walked on. It's also scruffily done on the side edge of the bottom step.

I wouldn't use them again. They fitted it last thing on a Friday afternoon and I felt it was a total rush job.

Definitely get them back.

rainbowrainfall · 14/03/2021 10:48

I will definitely call tomorrow. Getting them back to fix it will be a nightmare though. All the furniture is up there and built. We have huge wardrobes that cant be moved without being dismantled hence the reason we decided to sleep on the sofas until we could get them done! They will have to overcome that problem themselves!

Oh god, no. That's terrible!

Neolara · 14/03/2021 11:57

I think it looks ok.

MeadowViews · 14/03/2021 14:06

I wouldn't be happy at all, and moving the furniture is their issue. What a stress you didn't need! Love the carpet colour though.

Lonelycrab · 14/03/2021 14:09

No that’s a really poor job.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/03/2021 13:57

I think the carpet should be 'tucked in' to the edge of the gripper.

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I think the carpet should be 'tucked in' to the edge of the gripper.
Well none of mine is tucked into the side, I can see the edge all round even where it isn't cut short.

I emailed them to complain first thing this morning, they haven't replied so will give them until lunch time tomorrow and then call!

OP posts:
Onjnmoeiejducwoapy · 15/03/2021 18:25

It doesn’t LOOK bad but I’d be concerned that they didn’t get it right and that it will pull up over time. And then when it becomes apparent they’ll say you should have complained earlier.

SylviaPlath1984 · 17/03/2021 06:42

How did you get on?

rainbowrainfall · 17/03/2021 12:11

No response from them!!
I've emailed,
Called they said the person who deals with the complaints would call me back (yesterday)
Emailed again this morning.
Will call again later this afternoon!

Doesn't look good does it!
