What happens when you apply for a mortgage?
I know the documents they need
Do they ask for anything else? Do they ask you to do a budget?? Do they want to speak to you?

It depends on the lender.

I’ve always used a broker and they sort all the paperwork out etc and make sure you submit what is needed.

Off the top of my head I think they needed-

  • last 3 months payslips
  • last 3 months bank statements
-think they also needed photo ID such as passport
  • they did ask me how much we spent on bills like utilities, food, going out (hahaha), clothes, childcare etc but I didn’t really have to prove it (the broker said they had to keep the bank statements on file but didn’t actually have to submit them. I think if you go direct the bank does like to see them though).

I didn’t speak to anyone from the lender and I don’t know what the application form looked like as it was filled in for me!

I think I had to send them a verified copy of my passport i e. Signed by someone to confirm its me.

We had to give last 3 months payslips, last 3 months of all bank accounts we use & a utility bill. We had to download an app to scan in our ID & take a picture as we were in lockdown so couldn't get someone to verify and sign.
