Hi Everyone- Sorry for the delay - we have been putting the finishing touches on an offer on a house in Shrewsbury. We had put an offer on a house in Ledbury but missed out to someone else. Anything can happen between now and the end of June ( when we hope to move by because of stamp duty) I am excited but also very nervous/terrified!- Have lived in Bedfordshire for 20 years so everything will be new - Double whammy of my children leaving home at the same time! Should be interesting! Thanks so much for all your input. I hope everyone here has heard good things about Shrewsbury :-) x

Hi OP,

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but hoping you might get a notification….

im wondering how you got on with your plans? We are looking into relocating to Ledbury/Malvern/Ross-on-Wye and this thread was so useful. Along with all the info from people who knew the area well, it would be great to hear how it went for someone who was new to the area. Did you make the move, and if so how has it been?

OP’s last post said she’d offered on a house in Shrewsbury.

Hi. No problem at all.Yes we have been living in Shrewsbury for just over a year now and I would really recommend it. We did look at those other towns but decided on Shrewsbury because the town has a lot to offer and we have beautiful scenery to explore too. We are in our mid fifties so we don't have the issue of looking for schools etc so we just bought a house that suited us with a 30 min walk into town. Houses nearer to town were out of our price range.Do you need to be near a particular town for work?

Cheers OP, glad to hear its working out for you. I missed the bit about Shrewsbury, but it sounds great so will add it to my list of places I’m researching!! I’m not limited by work (I’m a nurse so able to find work anywhere really), but ideally looking for somewhere with a bit of an arty/independent feel and nice countryside. We’ve got young kids though so factoring in schools/activities etc….

Hi. Shrewsbury does have that arty independent feel. It has some great architecture and many independent shops, great indoor market etc. Has more scope that Ledbury I feel as larger and is surrounded by glorious countryside. We did also look at Ludlow and church stretton but they are much smaller and have less of the town buzz that we wanted. The combination of an interesting town hand in hand with good walking/cycling etc was hard to beat. Let me know how you get on and if you have more questions about Shrewsbury if you decide to look in to it further. Best of luck

Thanks for sharing all that info, it looks and sounds great so will do a bit of digging. We are hoping to visit all these areas in June as it’s a part of the country I’m totally unfamiliar with, so have added it to the list!
