What's Leighton buzzard like?

What is Leighton buzzard like? We are hoping to find a family home with a garden near good schools/amenities/parks with easy access to NW/central London and it seems to fit the bill, although I've never been. What are the pros/cons and where are the good areas/bits to avoid? Budget is up to 375k for 3-4 bedrooms. Thanks!

I've never been.

But I adore the shirts on this site and so whenever I hear anyone say Leighton Buzzard I instantly think "big name, big fun"

A fairly normal market town.. Possibly quite dull but then I like dull. I've lived here 40 years. But I'm in Linslade which used to be in Bucks. It's where I would start my search as it's closer to the station, walking distance, and also walkable to the town centre. 3 parks 1 with a lake and canal. Schools are well regarded but I have no children so can't offer personal experience.

Random fact, the peace treaty between the Vikings and Edward the Elder was signed here in 906.

Ooo we have friends in linslade. Last time we visited we had a lovely walk in Rushmore Country Park. The train was fast and easy into London and there is a Waitrose.

I liked it, but I like our friends a lot and they were the real purpose of our visit.

I grew up in Leighton Buzzard and Linslade. Haven't lived there for a long time but my mum does still and I have friends there. Loads of amenities and the rail links to London and Milton Keynes are great. The building that has happened over recent years is significant, I'm always surprised when I go back at how much it has grown and changed. I would imagine there is a good range of properties for your budget. I loved growing up there as we could do so much, plenty of pubs, shops etc within easy reach. However moving away to Uni made me realise I could never go back! For a young family it's good choice.

We moved to Leighton Buzzard from west London 6 years ago and really like it here. We chose Leighton Buzzard over Milton Keynes as it’s smaller town where you can get round to places on foot. Rushmere country park is very close by, great for weekend walks. Schools are good too. Linslade is lovely and closer to the train station, avoid parking fees.
