Conservatory glass roof, clear or blue tinted ?

I know lots of people here aren't keen on conservatories but I've always wanted one and we need the extra space but I can't decide what colour for the roof. Blue seems good as the sky will always look a bit sunnier BUT will it make my kitchen too dark?

Is it the only light source for your kitchen or have you got windows too?

Are you having glass all the way round or any walls?

Is it an option to have extension with roof lantern and sliding/bifold doors instead?

Can't afford to have an extension unfortunately. Yes the conservatory will be the only light source for the kitchen once it's finished, we're have low dwarf walls all around with big patio doors into the garden.

Is the tint for solar protection? Because a glass roofed conservatory can become unbearably hot. I know my blue tinted roof is solar protection - my friend has one with a clear roof and it gets really hot even in lukewarm weather.

Our house is really small with only a lounge and kitchen and we want to use the conservatory as another lounge with a tv and sofa so our teenager has somewhere to go with her friends without taking over our lounge.

The garden is north west facing so shouldn't get too hot.

Moondust - does the tint make your rooms that leed off the conservatory dark?
