How long for offer to be accepted

How long is reasonable to wait for an offer to be accepted? We made the offer early Monday but the estate agents couldn't get hold of the owner until yesterday afternoon. They are now telling me we will hear back today.

We had a chain collapse last year and I don't think I can take much more being mucked around...

It'll take as long as it takes. Depending on your offer, other interest received on the property, owners timescale on speed of sale required, whether they have found a property they like etc etc. Frustrating but it's just the way it is.

I'd hardly call 2 days being mucked around. They may well have other viewings booked in which they want to happen before they accept an offer. They might be doing the sums to see if they can afford their next move if your offer is below the asking price. They may just have other life stuff getting in the way.
It can be really hard when something is very important to you, but others have different priorities. Try not to worry as you can't change the outcome.
(This reads a bit preachy, but it's meant in a supportive way e.g. worrying won't change the outcome!!)

Thanks for the replies - I'll hold fast. There's a little backstory here - we were in a chain last year which fell apart after 3 months so I think my feelings of feeling 'mucked about' are related to that. I'll hold tight in terms of the offer.

The time you mentioned is perfectly reasonable. Having one night to think it over is totally legit.

I think 3 days to a week... if there is other interest they will be trying to see if they care an convert that to other offers, hang tight, it’s horrible waiting
