Dodgy neighbours

Not quite sure how to handle this, particularly as the options are limited, opinions welcome.

I have a very long-term tenant leaving soon. She's complained about the neighbours in the past & has reported them to the police once, as they had visible weed plants in the back garden.

I know I need to put this on the PIF but would you do something more like contact the neighbour's landlord, once the tenant has left?

She says that she can smell weed being smoked currently. Not contacted the landlord whilst she is there as she is fairly vulnerable. I don't live anywhere near, so it is quite awkward to sort...

Are you sure? Weed is grown indoors under heat lamps, not outside in the garden!
I don't know that the smell of it needs to go on the form, although now that police have been contacted, you probably do.

Yeah, I would have thought the same, given hydroponics, light, etc. Wonder if it was just an exotic fern?

😁

You can definitely grow weed very successfully outside in the summer in the UK, and the smell does travel around the neighbours.

We had a small weed plant in our garden when we moved into our house. It was growing under a bunch of conifers and presumably dropped by a bird. Distinctive smell was obvious.

If you know who the neighbours' landlord is then I'd mention it and leave the ball in their court. I'd want to know if someone was smoking it in my property.

Ta, apparently, her little dog took a liking to the plant, the other side of the fence. 😁🌿

Police are unlikely to do anything about someone smoking in their own home (rented or otherwise). Dealing, yes, so if they have a huge crop ...

Yep, that what's they told us.

I just don't want to dump any problems onto future owners.

I think I'll mention it to their landlord as that seems to be the extent of what I can achieve.
