What is this on the wall?

Moved in a year and a half ago, old stone Victorian terrace.
This has been spreading right at the top of my bedroom wall (outside wall). Finally got up to have a good look and there's damp marks and these awful eruptions/bulges/scabby things? What on earth is it? Wondering if it's damp from the gutter outside?

Also hoping it's not dry rotSad

Can anyone help?

You need @PigletJohn

PigletJohn · 26/02/2021 21:45

it's obviously a leak.

What is above that point? Go and look in the loft.

Might be a barrel of grog, might be the expansion pipe for the radiators, might be a chimney, might be a gable wall or a hole in the roof, might be a bees nest overflowing with honey, might be the rotting corpse of a zombie.

Take a torch and your camera.

Looks like Damp from a leak on the roof

If that's an external wall it could we'll be split or overflowing gutters. We had a nasty damp patch caused by the gutters getting blocked and overflowing.

You need to fix the cause and then scrape off the nasty bits and let it dry out before you can redecorate...

Get a dehumidifier in the room after as well to dry it out. The best ones are from Screwfix or Toolstation. Mines lasted years and collects loads of water. Don't spend a ton on one from John Lewis or whatever. 👍👍👍

You are on fine form today @PigletJohn

Thanks everyone. Will get up in the loft as soon as I can and have a look. :)
