Do you leave a contact number and forwarding address for your buyers?

We're moving in the next few weeks and I'm wondering whether to leave contact details for our buyers alongside the keys on moving day. Or is it best to keep contact via the estate agents?

Keep contact via agent (you could leave a welcome card and let them know in that) and get post redirected.

No, no no no no. I definitely wouldn't. Anything major or urgent then they can contact you via the solicitors.

Person preference of course, but I just wouldn't...but the buyers we sold to last year turned out to be twats at the last minute so I might be a bit biased lol.

My parents did and one couple had endless moronic requests and complaints. They've never left contact details since.

No reason to leave a number, but we're leaving some labels with a forwarding address for post. We're setting up a re-direction too but the last time we moved, loads of post still got missed!

No. Make sure you forward mail via the Post Office system. For a long time! Annual renewals etc. New buyers cannot access your number from an agent but the agent could pass on an urgent message.

@PandemicAtTheDisco this was my concern. We’ve already had some pretty random questions from them via the estate agents ( My fave was ‘Do neighbours on the road have a cat feeding / sitting system when each other go on holiday?’ ) so I don’t think I want them to have free access to my mobile number but just thought I’d check in case it’s the done thing to do to leave contact details and we’d look odd if we didn’t.

We did - left an e-mail and a phone number for us as well as address. It's been fine and we've had daily e-mails, all very friendly. When we moved here our buyer was very elderly and going into a nursing home but her son left his details which was kind of him and we asked him about something once.

It's up to you though and whether you want to be able to help your buyer if they need it. Ours were very grateful.

Bloody hell @SheWouldNever, if they’re bothering you with Neighbourhood Puss Watch already for the love of god don’t leave a number.

(We ended up in direct contact with our buyers and sellers in the end, thanks to last minute tomfoolery with solicitors, but it’s not standard. Have texted once to ask for the alarm code, which I think is tolerable!)

Absolutely not!! We did and were bombarded with requests to come and re pressurise the boiler and they tried to intimidate us into paying them some money for some damp proof work.

We had our sellers number...we did ask a few questions about where things are but they also messaged us when they realised they had accidently had things sent here etc so it was fine.

I will not be leaving anything for my buyers. they are a nightmare

We have done in the past - no problems.

Our most recent sellers didn’t. No trouble, but various (not a lot) letters, Christmas cards, bills just binned.

Do you mean binned? Why not just return to sender?

they will have a forwarding address for you on the sale document. Apart from that, leg it and leave no info - especially as it sounds like these people need a wife!

No. Estate agent and solicitor will have your details

But EA cannot give your personal details to your buyers. They could forward a message. There is an app called Nextdoor that people use for cat sitting notices!

We gave our buyers a number, never had any bother. They sent us a nice message when they moved in thanking us for leaving it spotless 👍. Then heard from them about 2 years later saying some mail from the nhs had gone to the house and they left it in the porch for me to pick up . 🙂

No way! And set up the post redirect for at least a year.

I wouldn't, but I'd leave a list of useful numbers/contacts e.g. the person who normally services your boiler, any builders you've used and maybe key info about the house like if the electric meter is in an odd place or when bin day is.
