Help with kitchen layout welcomed

Would anyone like to offer any suggestions on this kitchen layout.

Range cooker is set into original chimney breast (period house ) and I would like some some sort of symmetry with the units either side of chimney.

Where would you locate a full height fridge? It is currently next to the dishwasher and sink and it doesnt work as the area is too busy.

Absolutely love our current island but it is too big for the space. Wondering if we should try penninsula instead.

All comments welcomed. Thank you

That’s a tough one. Ideally with the other full height units but it might be fairly far from the cooker - unless it’s actually more convenient there so family members don’t get in each other’s way.

Alternatively I‘d consider integrated under counter fridge and separate freezer, with the same doors as the units to get a streamlined look.

Thank you. We tried under an counter fridge and put a full height fridge in the utility with the freezers but we couldnt rotate food correctly and I said I would never have under counter again as I couldnt find things. Hence thinking that the only option for fridge is the far end from the cooker but that is 7m away so felt there must be other options.

Any other thoughts on the layout and island or peninsula etc? Thanks

Why are you changing it - a refit or just to improve the space? I would bring units round the corner towards the door from the cooker to give you more space near it. Then have the fridge near the pillar on the other side with a larder near it. Your peninsula should be near the range to be any use but there's nowhere obvious to put it, unfortunately the chimney breast arrangement isn't very space efficient.

Sorry, just read about the dishwasher area being busy. is that becuase everyone's squeezing past the island?

kitchenideas · 21/02/2021 21:49

Yes there will be a refit so any change is possible. Even removing the chimney breast and replacing the range although I think I have discounted that as like the period look.

The units have gone round the kitchen from door to cooker as you suggest for many years with the fridge behind the door and it is too short a length of wall so you just get a totally useless corner area that is never used. Hence why when I removed the run of units and installed an island I loved it. The island has been a fantastic addition but needs reducing in size which I can do..

Dishwasher area is busy in part for squeezing past island but in main because the whole kitchen is centred around there with bin, recycling, fridge, sink and dishwasher. Plus 6 people here 24/7 for much of the last year has made the problem far worse with far too many cooks!

Now I want the whole kitchen used to spread us all out!!

Any one got any ideas re the island if not the fridge? Perhaps different shape to best fit the space. Thanks

www.blum.com/gb/en/ideas/dynamic-space/workflow/ intersesting on ergonomics.

It's a narrow room to fit an island in. Maybe a central work table like you mgiht get in a commercial kitchen?
Could you push the sink to the right and have a well lit work area in front of the window? Then fridge and storage other side of that pillar.

kitchenideas · 22/02/2021 11:23

Thanks there is another window other side of pillar so fridge would have to be right at far end of kitchen. It seems to work with an island although I agree it needs to be narrow. Would a central work table be 600mm wide?

Yes well you get them in commercial kitchens it must be possible to create a domestic styled one 1200 or 1500 long x 600 wide. Better than no island.

kitchenideas · 22/02/2021 13:09

Thanks. Yes I have come to the conclusion that 600 wide is maximum feasible at certain points although wondered about wider near cooker and narrowing especially if I rehang the door to hall to open the other way??

It sounds like you need to separate off a cook's area, a "gang way" for people entering the room to head to the table end and have an area for drinks/snacks/fridge raiding that's not behind the island.

Thank you. Anyone else have any suggestions?
