Moving to Anglesey

Am currently based in Welsh Borders but have spent 40 years visiting Anglesey and have wanted to call it home for many years. My older children are leaving or have left home and my partner and I would like to relocate with our 5 year old daughter. Happy to live anywhere on the island but wondering if any mumsnetters have experience of living on or relocating to the island and if anyone could recommend areas with good local schools? Many Thanks!

Coastal villages can be empty in winter due to so many second homes, it would be worth visiting them mid winter to see how you find it. Central Anglesey is a very Welsh speaking area (although if you DD is 5 this isn't really an issue for her as she will learn quickly in a Welsh language primary school). Menai bridge and llanfair Pg are a bit more 'all season' and mixed Welsh and English language with students in menai bridge and lots of quirky shops.

Llanfair PG is a good bet. You'll have a fuller experience and a far wider cultural circle if you learn Welsh- duolingo is free and ace!

@Cyw2018 this is really interesting and thank you. Was actually looking in Menai area or thereabouts. I’ve stayed in Anglesey all year round and like the idea of out of season island life but have to think of the social aspect for our DD.

Most people I know on Anglesey live in the Welsh parts, Welsh speaking. My old boss moved to Treardder Bay about 20 years ago and they don't speak Welsh but get on fine there.
Menai is fairly nice, they get busy in the summer like the rest of us on the mainand.
