Should different rooms match...

Started watching some interior design programmes in lock-down (mistake) and then following some designers on Insta and realised that I don't think my rooms really match :) I do have a cottage style throughout and tend to use a lot of neutrals with a bit of dark green and muted pink thrown in but I have old oak furniture in living room then some pine in kitchen/dining - all vintage or antique. Ah, wish I had never started watching these bloody programmes cos now my style seems crap!

Nope. We have walnut furniture in the snug, traditional oak in the living room, and modern scandi style kitchen. Just my preferred style for each room. My bedroom is all white modern furniture. I don't like mismatched in the same room but happy for each room to stand alone!

It is your home so you can have it how you want.
You don’t need some random off the tv to tell you what you like.

No. Matchy-matchy is not chic.

It might be a bit odd to have super-shiny gloss minimal in one room and then cosy farmhouse/country in the next, but matching rooms is not necessary!

I think your home sounds lovely OP. I am a fan of the same flooring and wall colour throughout as my house isn’t big and I feel it creates flow. From there I just buy what I like. A house is for living in. I’m not a fan of overly designed rooms and I have a real pet hate for matching furniture. But other people may love that, each to their own.

So, it does match :)
