Hello

My first post so if I have approached it incorrectly apologies in advance.

We are soon to move into our first house and have absolutely no idea about anything. Its a 3 bed, 2 reception room house (not sure how helpful) and would like to install spotlights in lounge, dining room, bathroom, hallway and kitchen. We have estimated 6 spotlights per room.

  1. to install spotlights do we need to do a total rewire
  2. approximately how much would this cost - Essex based/m25
  3. any tips on how to save money/installation tips

Thanks in advance.

Our electrician charged £50 per spotlight but part of a larger extension and included zones and dimmers. I thought it was expensive for a large job but not so just for a few.

You shouldn't need a separate circuit if your wiring is ok as they will be LED which have a low demand on the circuit (unless you are having Blackpool illuminations)

Ours charged a day rate of about £150 and then materials on top. Depending on the price they'll charge you per unit, it may be worth buying them yourself. I had to recently and they worked out about £6 per spotlight. They can run the wire from existing light fittings.

Thank you. This is helpful and I'm hopeful shouldnt be as expensive as I initially thought (thought might need total rewire).

If you want spotlights that you can swivel to change the direction, make sure you tell your electrician or purchase them yourself.
