Moving company packing - what to expect?

After the advice on here about getting our moving company to pack for us, we’ve booked it and they are coming tomorrow. I’m panicking now as I’ve no idea what to expect? We’ve taken the beds down and tidied things up, packed a small suitcase each and planned for takeaway tomorrow night. The loft will get emptied and packed at the same time I think, as we’ve nowhere to easily store unpacked things.

Is there anything else I need to know? Oh, and I’ve bought in biscuits especially for the workers Grin

Have more drinks available than you think they will go through. We got through 4 litres of milk just on teas and coffees. Also they will really appreciate it if you let them use your toilet. Our movers were really surprised when I told them to use ours - apparently most people won't let them so they have to find other places to go. They were really great to us.

Thanks for this, we are using packers for the first time this week. I had no idea we need to strip the beds! I thought they would just ignore the bedding until actual moving day. May call and ask tomorrow.

Our movers sent us a covid prep video and we are not allowed to offer any food or drink and have to stay outside while they are packing. Feels rude, but I guess it makes sense.

In our case the packers were like a pack of tea drinking locusts working through the packing.. It was amazing how fast they packed, but, beware they will just literally throw everything in boxes. They won't necessarily put matching shoes together in the same box (even if they are near each other). I found unpacking really quite stressful because so much random stuff was put together in boxes.

I would put the hoover and cleaning things in your car, otherwise they will pack those and you can't clean your old or new house. Also put anything you need in your car before they come. We packed holiday suitcases with spare clothes/pj's etc.

They will demand tea and coffee-lots of it-every hour!

I'd move anything that will be in a different room in the new house to beside other items for that room - so for example, in our last move I moved a couple of lamps from the main bedroom to the spare room, as that was where they were going In the new house. Made unpacking much easier! The bathtub was our agreed holding area for things we didn't want packed - worked well as the items were protected from the hustle and bustle as well.

Well they’re here and doing a cracking job so far. Although how the bloody hell we have accumulated so much crap in the time we’ve been here, I’ll never know!
They asked us what we needed between today and tomorrow and because of how organised we are after all your super advice, we could literally say the box with on the counter, the mini fridge and freezer, and everything on the mattresses. Everything else can go!

We still need to empty the loft properly but we’ve run out of room 😳 So the kids are chilling on their beds with their iPads for a bit and we’re having a brew.

We had a bag of rubbish move from Germany to the UK. Luckier than friends... It was the full nappy bin.

Good luck with the rest of your move.

(Out of interest... What Covid measures were in place? We move again in a few weeks, we get the packing service as part of relocation package)

I think the Covid measures depend on the company. Our guys haven’t been wearing masks, and have been accepting coffees and biscuits. But the doors have been open all day, so plenty of ventilation and it’s bloody freezing!
