Anyone used Farrow and Ball metal/wood cupboard paint? What do I need to know?

DH and I have just moved into a house with some really dated and horrid built-in wardrobes in the master bedroom. The carcasses of the wardrobes are great, but the outsides are just hideous - a now-grimy and stained white wood laminate with gold trim. 1980s finest.

We've looked into buying new doors and it's doable, but we would like to try sanding/priming/painting with Farrow and Ball Lulworth blue first and adding some new handles to just give it a refresh while we get going on the (long, long) list of other jobs we now have around the house..

Has anyone used F&B interior wood/metal paint to do anything similar? How did you find it? Any tips? And what finish did you choose (eggshell/gloss/flat)? We've ordered testers of Lulworth and a couple of other blue options and are keen to go for it but knowing F&B is such a MN favourite (and it being my first foray into such things) I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

Thanks in advance!

I've used F&B in navy & pink on my cupboards & it was great & easy. I also highly recommend their floor paint which has outlasted all the other modern floor paint I've tried. But run a mile in the opposite direction of the bloody wall emulsion in very dark shades, nightmare.

Metal / wood paint is for metal or wood. I don't think it would work on laminate doors. Those paints need the F& B primer too but again for wood. i think you can get primers that allow you to paint laminate, but not by F&B. i primed then painted a desk with F&B and it was great but it was real wood.

Don't waste your money trying to paint laminate with F&B.

Have you considered chalk paint then a coating of wax?

Some colour ideas www.anniesloan.com/products/chalk-paint/ .

Used several years ago on bedroom furniture (free standing wardrobe and drawer units), with good outcome. The furniture was basic white, and had been in use for years, but needed updated for a teenager's room.
