Recommend me a built in double oven

Not the most exciting of things I know but we moved in here last year and due to cost kept the old double oven when we had the kitchen done. We'll it died today so now need recommendations please.

I need a grill in the top oven, and the bottom ideally needs to be fan.

Only 2 of us mostly.

I have a full size lower oven, and a smaller upper oven which is also functions as a grill and microwave.
Both Bosch, and have been brilliant for the four years I’ve owned them.
The ovens are fan assisted and make a perfect job of everything from swiss roll and meringues to large roasts - very even cooking, and rapid without burning or drying.
The controls are digital touch pad, with a spin wheel to select loads of options from plate warming to different areas of grill size and temperatures etc, but very intuitive and easy to use.
I was a reluctant convert from gas cooking (still have a gas hob), but this fab German engineering has me sold!

Thanks @Babdoc we've been looking at Bosch so you might have just swayed me.

The only slightly annoying thing is that the grill only works with its door shut, and therefore you can’t use a grill pan with a sticking out handle, if you see what I mean! I just use an oven glove, so not a big deal.

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 13/02/2021 15:29

Ah. That'll piss the husband off (he's a chef). Will check out a few different models.

Happy with our Neff double oven. I seriously regret not spending an extra £300 to have a fan in the top oven too. If you can afford and have the space, I would just do two standard ovens on top of each other or side-by-side. Much more useful.

Neff all the way. Our built-under double is in its 10th year now, fan in bottom only but has never been an issue. We're about to have a new kitchen but are keeping the oven.

I've just had a new Bosch one and the top bit really confuses me - what do you use it for if you don't mind me asking?

I think it's the fact it spins around when I select the oven or grill function

DramaAlpaca · 13/02/2021 16:05

Another vote for Neff. We put ours in when we built the house 20 years ago and it's still going strong. I'd highly recommend them as a brand.

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/02/2021 16:07

We have an elderly Neff, the top oven is convection plus grill. How would people supervise cheese on toast with the door closed??

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 13/02/2021 17:05

@TeaAndStrumpets that and my husband uses it to brown off omelettes/etc

OP posts:
Mamette · 13/02/2021 17:08

Neff. I think they all insist you have the door shut while grilling now though. I assume it’s an energy efficiency thing.

bouncydog · 13/02/2021 17:10

We have Neff and keeping the door closed to grill is fine to do cheese on toast and finish omelettes. My mum still has our AEG double oven that’s about 10 years old that I gave her when we upgraded our kitchen. She reckons it’s the best oven she’s ever had. Friends double Neff has been going years - super quiet.

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/02/2021 17:12

Thanks for the info, I need a new oven when we move so it looks as if it could be tricky to find a proper grill!

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/02/2021 17:15

Yes I can see my cheese on toast technique is rather too "hands on" for modern ovens! I like to spread the cheese about as it melts Grin

bouncydog · 13/02/2021 17:20

@TeaAndStrumpets you can spread the cheese about - you just pull the tray out on the shelf, spread it about, push it back in, shut the door and it carries on grilling🤣🤣 They have glass doors and lights inside so you can see what’s happening!

But I am a control freak and enjoy it!

We've also got Neff at the moment and very happy with them so far. It's a smaller oven with microwave on top and bigger one underneath. I seem to remember someone telling me that Bosch and Neff are made in the same factory but Neff is only sold to trade whereas Bosch is direct to consumer.
Old house had Miele which is great but expensive.

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 13/02/2021 18:31

Looked at Miele. Pricey and currently only singles. Bosch own Neff from memory.

The grill thing is annoying as DH normally sticks the frying pan straight under the grill with handle sticking out.

Babdoc · 13/02/2021 19:04

HauntedPencil, I use it most as a microwave, second most as an oven and third as a grill. When I have visitors I use it for keeping plates or food warm, while cooking in the big oven underneath.
I like the spin wheel, it’s nice and quick for selecting options.
I grill less than I used to now the family have left home - they loved home made kebabs etc, and grilling was a quick way to cook when I was working full time. Now I’m retired I do a lot more slow casseroles, roasts, curries etc.

bouncydog · 13/02/2021 19:38

@letsnotscaretheneighbourshave you thought about a single with a combi above it or 2 singles one above the other? The Neff ones are multifunctional have grills and slide and hide doors which are brilliant particularly if your short and struggle to reach the back of the oven with drop down doors!

Thank you! I'll give it a try tonight I think. I've only been using the microwave but that's such a waste
letsnotscaretheneighbours · 13/02/2021 19:59

@bouncydog no I haven't but I thought we'd have to replace like for like due to the tower casing.

OP posts:
letsnotscaretheneighbours · 13/02/2021 21:09

Well. Just blew much more than I thought on a Neff. Nothing decent in stock anywhere other than the model we bought, so hopefully it'll last donkeys!

Thank you for your help everyone.

We have two Miele ovens. They look great and controls very easy to use. Only been in 2 years and we are already having problems with them reaching and staying at the correct/set temperature. They have been serviced recently and problem not properly fixed, quite temperamental. Probably wouldn’t get Miele ovens again.

Miele induction hob and microwave have been great however, no probs at all

weasle · 13/02/2021 23:04

Also about to buy a double oven (and microwave). Or maybe a single and combi. Have my eye on Bosch versions.

Any recommendations between the two options? The double oven and microwave takes up more space. Is a combi actually ok? We use microwave and fan oven lots and grill not so much. 2 adults 3 DC.
