Should I move out of Wilmslow? Where else in Cheshire?

Hi everyone.

We currently live in Wilmslow where we both work however remote working some of the week in the future and working from home now means that we could potentially move further away.

As much as I like Wilmslow the next rung on the housing ladder seems too big a jump as the house prices have gone nuts.

We currently have a tiny 3 bed semi, would love something detatched (although probably not possible somewhere nice) with a nice big kitchen diner (our current kitchen is so small it only fits an undercounter fridge and no room for a tumble dryer) budget is £450k.

Both late 30s with an under 1year old. Don't want to be too rural, would ideally like a nice village with stuff going on and good schools.

Really like the look of Christleton near Chester, nice village great schools and Chester very close, but houses for sale are like hens teeth.

Where else can I look? :)

Thanks in advance! X

Glossop

Hartford.

NotYourReindeer · 14/02/2021 20:20

Outskirts of Warrington, not cheap but possibly more house for your money:

Grappenhall
Stockton Heath
Walton

NotYourReindeer · 14/02/2021 20:21

Frodsham and Helsby too, some lovely houses that way.

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 14/02/2021 20:25

Keep going down the A41 and you get Tattenhall, Malpas and if you turn right at Broxton Roundabout... Farndon....

MaverickDanger · 14/02/2021 20:29

Hartford or Nantwich

HarrietSchulenberg · 14/02/2021 20:30

And lots of housebuilding in that Malpas/Farndon/Tattenhall triangle too.

MirandaMarple · 14/02/2021 20:32

I sold in Cheadle Hulme last year and moved to Tottington, north of Bury. It's semi-rural. Greenmount and Ramsbottom are lovely too.

MirandaMarple · 14/02/2021 20:33

Sorry you said when else in Cheshire. Widnes is in Cheshire too 🤪 why Cheshire?

Screwcorona · 14/02/2021 20:36

I know it's not far away but I used to live in cheadle hulme and it's so close by but slightly cheaper.

Comefromaway · 14/02/2021 21:26

Would Macclesfield be cheaper, I’m not sure. Congleton would be I think or somewhere between the two such as Gawsworth.

There's someone on here selling their house in Middlewich OP within your budget!

Would you and DH still need to go into work? Have you done the rush hour commute between Chester and Wilmslow OP? I'm guessing not if you're considering moving that far.

mnahmnah · 14/02/2021 22:28

Tarporley, Kendall, Tarvin are all lovely

mnahmnah · 14/02/2021 22:28

Kensall, not Kendall!

If you still want suburban then how about Altrincham, Timperley, Hale Barns? You should get a detached for £450k or thereabouts, great schools, good links to the city and not too far from Wilmslow. We also have great countryside nearby which has been a godsend in this bloody lockdown!

Haha no we haven't tried the rush hour commute although we do have colleagues who commute from Liverpool and Wrexham (before lockdown)

Basically there might be a chance that when lockdown is over that our work might continue with partial remote working. We wouldn't consider moving that far away unless its a 50/50 WFH split.

Beat me to it. You could get a 4 bed detached for that money. Would caution against it if you don’t like traffic jams though (or at least aren’t prepared to wait out the bypass which should improve things massively).
PrinnyPree · 14/02/2021 22:55

Tbf it doesn't have to be Cheshire I'm just looking not too far from my work in Wilmslow. Just looking for a good place to bring up a child, I like the idea of a nice village but nothing too rural and close to a city like Chester is a bonus. :)

Chelford? A few miles south from Alderley, lovely countryside, handy for Macclesfield and Knutsford. A fair bit cheaper than some surrounding villages.
Poynton and Cheadle Hulme if you want to stay urban.
