Ideal place for washing machine/tumble dryer or utility room

Dear all

I HATE walking up and down stairs with bags of laundry. Currently the utility room is in the basement with bedrooms on the first floor. Two flights of stairs is too much!!!

My next home will have a ground floor, first floor (bedrooms) and loft (yet to be done).

Where should a utility go? I don't want it on the ground floor, but please school me if that's not a good idea. I'm thinking either no utility room and just put washer and dryer in a cupboard space on the first floor landing (though, then where to put the clothes airer with drying clothes?), steal from the bedrooms upstairs to make a utility room (but noise?), or in the loft where I am yet to configure (there will likely be a linen cupboard there/ space for towels, maybe that becomes a utility room?), though I'd still be taking clothes from bedroom level up there (although there parent bedroom will be in the loft).

Just wondering what would/have you done and your experiences.

No noise or vibrations. We regularly check pipes to ensure no leaks.

Well fabric nappies are your choice! Surely this won’t last forever. Do you hangers your DC in the loft? Why would going up and down to a loft be easier? Surely most of your DC are on your main bedroom floor. Do you not change them on the ground floor?

We have a laundry room with boot store, large hand wash sink and plumbed in drainer, loads of drying space and cupboard for loads of things like batteries, light bulbs, paint brushes etc. Don’t want any of that in the loft. I’d rather have clothes storage and ski clothes storage!

hangers??? Change your DC

I forgot! It houses my wine fridge too and my ironing kit. I don’t want to iron in bedrooms.

I put the washing machine in the hallway cupboard on the first floor, then installed a double decker 5ft pulley airer (they do 8ft ones) above the stairs to the loft. It's perfect. Dirty laundry is generated in the bathroom, 5 steps to the dirty laundry baskets in the cupboard, into the washing machine and then 10 steps to the stairs to load the airer.
