Anyone feel like they're never going to find anywhere?

We sold our house last year and ended up moving in with family as our purchase fell through. The market is so slow at the moment - hardly anything has come on and nothing in the area of town that we need.

It feels like it's dragging on so much! We're 2 months in and haven't even looked at a single house. I really hope the market picks up, but I'm so worried. We can afford what we want (3 bed semi, detached, decent garden), but I don't know what we'll do if something ok comes on, but not perfect. There seem to be generally more smaller 3 bed semis in the area, with small gardens, but 20-30k below our budget. Our full budget could get us somewhere really nice, but they come up less often (maybe 3 or 4 per year in usual times). But who knows whether anyone will sell this year? One came up for sale in October, but we were under offer with our purchase that fell through. It was so lovely 3 bed and an extra room downstairs, with a huge garden in the perfect location. I dont want this to happen again...

Not sure what the point of this post is, I'm just frustrated and second guessing what will happen! We can stay with family for as long as we want, but nobody wants it to be indefinite, and of course our money will buy less as time goes on, if prices go up.

To add - I'm also worried there are loads of people like us - waiting - and this will drive prices up! We are an buyers with no chain, so obviously in a good position, but dont want to get into bidding wars.

Possibly this may be no help OP but in our area the market slowed way down to almost dead but our EA has said it's picked right back up again in the last week or so.

He seemed confident that whilst it won't be back to June/July levels it will become a healthy market again soon.

Hang in there Flowers

This has been our last 2 years! Frustrating

This is so similar to me at the moment and I feel your pain! I put my place on the market last June and got a buyer very quickly. Then saw a brilliant place in my budget, offer accepted and was over the moon. My buyer then completely ghosted, didn’t actually pull out just completely disappeared and I ended up losing the house. I ended up having to relist, accepted an offer for less than the original offer and decided that I couldn’t go through the stress of a chain again so decided I’d move in with family and only start house hunting when I had completed on my sale.

That happened last week, I saw a house at the weekend that was a great location and ok price but just way too small in person. Now there’s absolutely nothing I even want to see! I’ve been looking on Rightmove for months too and it’s been dead where I am. I’m lucky that I can stay where I am for as long as I need but I’m really worried that there will be a mad rush for similar buyers when a half decent one does come on and it’ll just keep pushing the prices up! The house I saw apparently had 12 viewings booked in within a day of going on to the market! I’m really hoping a lot more houses will be coming on soon, the EA I spoke to said it had picked up in the last week so fingers crossed.

I felt exactly like you a month ago. We lost 2 houses last summer with both sellers pulling out, one due to him not being able to find anywhere to move to and the other because one of the vendors fell ill. We carried on looking for the next 6 months with what seemed like nothing coming onto the market in our price range and that suited us.

However we found another house in the middle of January and, fingers crossed, things seem to be progressing well. I guess what I'm trying to say is, the right house for you will come along when you least expect it. Good luck to you Smile

I suspect there are people who haven't put their houses on the market who might be waiting to see whether the stamp duty holiday gets extended so they can maximise their budgets.

I feel the same way. We've been round a few houses this weekend though, and estate agent said the market has picked up again in the past two weeks. So hopefully sellers will realise this and you'll find something soon :) Plus as others have said stamp duty ending is only 6 weeks away, lots of people I'm sure waiting to see what happens with that.
