Extension- When to order kitchen

newyorky09 · 05/02/2021 15:12

We are hopefully starting an extension end of a March and have chosen a kitchen from DIY kitchens (Linwood in white and dove grey island- If anyone has similar would be great to see a picture as we can’t get to the showrooms at the moment!). I’m not sure when we should order the kitchen though. We have measurements from the architect but should we wait until the extension is built to confirm these before ordering?
Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

Your architect and builders should be able to confirm this. Also, if you know what you want then ask what their delivery times are like. I've got friends who are currently living with a new finished extension but have been waiting weeks for the kitchen to arrive!

We ordered our kitchen with only the measurements from the architects, and our kitchen did not quite fit and had to be altered and rearranged by the builders. I would talk to your builders about the best time to order, but I would personally wait until there is a room built to measure!

agree with pp - once you have something to measure.
plans are nice but building is not always straight forward and tolerances are cm not mm.

Thanks for the advice. Will wait until we can properly measure I think!

In the thick of this now. Kitchen can’t be ordered until extension is built and can be measured on site, but will take 6-8 weeks for delivery after that.

I thought you could order if you had the 'gap ends' filling up any size discrepancy's

They put them at the ends of the runs of base, tall and wall units.
Infill panels ( thanks DH!)

murbblurb · 05/02/2021 20:21

those panels are easy money for the kitchen people - why pay for things that waste space?

wait, measure and remeasure. Bitter experience here with a kitchen designer who cocked up measuring the room.

Definitely wait until the extension has been built and plastered. We lost about 5cm centimeters when it was built compared to the plans which, whilst not much, meant we had to make a couple of design changes. We measured ourselves once the shell was built and could see it was a bit shorter, so started thinking about how the design could be changed at that stage.
