Hi All,
Sorry for the extremely long post:
Looking for some help please!
We recently had a new bathroom and kitchen installed in our house. We bought the bathroom from Wickes and used one of their recommended installers. The bathroom is on the first floor and sits over the kitchen. During and after the installation of the bathroom we have had several issues:
- during the removal of the previous bathroom, the installer cracked a pipe and we came down to water leaking through our kitchen ceiling in the morning
- once the bath had been installed, we again found water leaking through our kitchen ceiling and it turned out the overflow hadn’t been connected properly
- unbelievably, we found water coming through our kitchen ceiling a third time and the installer then said it was due to the silicone around the bath not being fully water tight
- a spotlight over the bath gave electric shocks if touched. While being fixed by the installer, they caused damage to the bathroom ceiling. After initially trying to deny it was an issue, they agreed to send a decorator round to fix it. Despite chasing multiple times, they still haven’t done this.
- the first thermostat installed for the shower stopped being able to change the temperature after one week and then leaked. We contacted Wickes and asked for a new one to be sent. None was sent for three weeks despite chasing twice and this was then blamed on COVID. We were then asked to go to the shop where we had ordered the bathroom to pick it up which we did to expedite it. On arrival, the salesperson said the only one they had left was damaged. He then offered to order us another one which was ‘better’ but we would have to wait for it to be delivered. Once delivered (another week later) the installer visited and said that it didn’t fit so another thermostat had to be ordered
- other minor issues occurred just after installation such as a mirror cabinet being installed and left so haphazardly that it was at a 45 degree angle on the wall and the shower screen being fitted the wrong way round.
The latest is that I have come home from a business trip and immediately can smell a damp smell coming from the bathroom and kitchen which I suspect is water that has collected under the bath/in the cavity between the bathroom and the kitchen
Is there anything I can do? I don’t trust the installers to fix the issues anymore and there is a clause in the contract we signed with Wickes that they essentially have no responsibility for the installer they recommend.
Is it too much to hope for some kind of compensation?
