Daughter but some plastic packaging on the hob while it was off but still hot. I've tried everything and can't get it off.

Have you tried sex lube and a fish slice?

QuimReaper · 03/02/2021 22:27

(Sorry. Just wanted to get in there first Grin)

FaintlyMacabre · 03/02/2021 22:34

Depends on how much plastic there is but if only a small amount you could try turning the ring on and burning it off. It will stink though.
Disclaimer- this may be incredibly dangerous but it’s what I’d do!

Kendodd · 03/02/2021 22:34

You know if you hadn't put the second post I would have treated that as a serious suggestion and tried it.

What about trying Hobrite?

Kendodd · 03/02/2021 22:41

I've tried Hobrite, no luck. Do you think if I leave it on overnight it might work?

Nah I think it is the action of rubbing rather than leaving it on.
Oh dear, that sounds rude, especially since we started off talking about sex lube. Blush
Anyway, I would use Hob Brite with a microfibre cloth and a lot of elbow grease. That worked for me. It took forever though.
Lakeland sell a scraper, though I haven't used it personally as I would be really worried about damaging the hob (we rent so I am ultra cautious!!!) www.lakeland.co.uk/23970/Hob-Heaven-Ceramic-Hob-Cleaning-Scraper

Magstermay · 03/02/2021 23:00

Oh Quim I hoped I’d get there first 😂

ClaudiaWankleman · 03/02/2021 23:02

Can you heat the ring to its lowest setting and once it has softened the plastic, scrape it off with something?

Hastingsishot · 03/02/2021 23:04

Heat it up and scrape it off with something like an old credit card which shouldn't scratch.

Bamaluz · 03/02/2021 23:06

I had to do this recently, let it get cold, I wouldn't reheat it.
Scrub with a plastic scourer and plenty of washing up liquid.

Bluntness100 · 03/02/2021 23:06

I scraped mine off with a butter knife. Sadly I’ve been stupid enough to do is several times, it’s never scratched it.

domesticslattern · 03/02/2021 23:07

Old credit card is a good idea.

Theunamedcat · 03/02/2021 23:09

I scraped my chopping board off with a blade while it was hot

TitInATrance · 03/02/2021 23:10

I have a scraper thing for ceramic hobs which is basically a straight edged razor blade in a plastic handle. It does a great job on plastic if you warm the hob a bit first.

I think it’s Hobrite branded.

Robinonaspade · 03/02/2021 23:10

I've managed to remove a melted plastic lunch box from a ceramic hob by using a black scraper from Lake Land, hob brite and a lot of elbow grease and perseverance!
I did turn on hob briefly at start to budge larger bits of plastic with scraper... It did stink!
It took a few days of working at it but it all eventually came off and there's no evidence on hob top.
Good luck!

TitInATrance · 03/02/2021 23:13

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Glass-Ceramic-Hob-Scraper-Knife-Cleaner-/142545966261 Saves a lot of scrubbing with the usual burnt gunk too

Fudgecakes · 03/02/2021 23:14

I second loads of fairy liquid and a scrubby sponge.....worked for me when I accidentally put the kettle down on my hot hob and it melted like a snowman in brilliant sunshine Blush

NoIdeasForWittyNickname · 03/02/2021 23:15

I regularly use the Lakeland's scraper on my ceramic hob, it scrapes burnt food well and doesn't damage the surface (I have more scratches from normal pots and pans). Don't know if it will help with the burnt plastic though. Maybe turn the ring on the lowest setting to soften it a bit and quickly scrape off, as others suggested?

@QuimReaper

Have you tried sex lube and a fish slice?

You get there first

Jesus I forgot how funny that was ......

DollyP23 · 03/02/2021 23:27

I agree with pp who have said washing up liquid and scourer sponge thing. Worked on melted plastic from bread bag on my hob
