HELP I NEED OUT OF THIS HATEFUL BLOODY HOUSE!

I know there are similar discussions like this on here but right now I`m seething and need to get this off my chest!

I bought this house (a typical 3 bed semi) just under 10 years ago. When I first moved here I loved it. Then, about half way through this "sentence" the rot started to set in.....

If I decorate any of it, it always looks crap no matter what I do, have now given up and any room that looks tired just gets painted white - I`ve given up caring. I have spend thousands on some quite major stuff, new doors, the boiler has been changed twice, new kitchen, almost a complete new roof, yada yada yada yada. This dump throws problems at me faster than I can afford to do anything about them.

Ive always enjoyed a bit of gardening, but not here. If I plant anything in the garden it always dies, same with houseplants they all snuff it. On the subject of the garden I cant sit out there because theres too much road noise, but if I try and relax indoors next doors hammering and drilling drives me nuts - they are getting worse and worse.

Nobody here speaks

Every weekend I get woken up early by the power tool circus that is the rest of them in this culdesac - vacuuming cars, jet washes, drills, leaf blowers, angle grinders, hammering etc etc. Most of them are at home all week because of lockdown. I am not! Why can`t they do it during the week selfish bastards?!!

Back indoors all my rooms are too small, if I ever need to move anything around or put something somewhere, the space is always about an inch too small

Im sick and tired of things cracking, leaking, jamming, breaking, and dont start me on the plumbing/electrics, that`s another minefield money pit....

This list could go on forever, but tonight was the last straw - I went into the garage and noticed that the roof is leaking. MORE EXPENSE

Sick of this hell hole, I cant wait to move but cant do anything much at the moment. Comes to something when you would rather be at work........

Sorry for the rant, and have a good evening all :-)

We managed to sell out shit hole that required a lot of work. Now we have lovely house that doesn't need any work after we painted walls to our liking.

are you in a position to sell OP? Not the best time unless stamp duty freeze window is extended though

Hawse · 04/02/2021 09:15

Not usually the best solution for most people, but could you do a part exchange on a new build? You'd move into something that ideally would need nothing more than you moving in, and getting rid of your problem house in one-go.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 04/02/2021 09:25

Thank you for the thread. I'm so sick of my shit-hole house.

userxx · 04/02/2021 09:29

I dream of a 3 bed semi. My house is so small, was perfect when I bought it as a single person but since my boyfriend moved in it's felt like the walls are closing in.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 04/02/2021 09:35

I've got to start decluttering - are skip hire firms still operating? I know I could google this, but you are my new friends now Grin

MaryIsA · 04/02/2021 09:52

I rented mine out and bought somewhere else. My tenants love it. I still have to maintain it but I don't have to live in it.

sulee · 04/02/2021 14:53

Love this thread and can totally relate OP!
We bought our house years ago as it had plenty of room for our family although I didn’t really love it. There’s just me and my DH now and I’ve grown to hate the place. We have horrible neighbours too now and I really loathe it, especially after many months of furlough and home working. We tried briefly to sell a while ago but a health scare followed by COVID knocked that on the head. I have contacted the agent to say I want to put it on the market soon but scarily there’s very little for sale I’d want to move into at the moment so we may have to rent for a while if and when we flog it.

user1471538283 · 04/02/2021 17:28

I learnt the hard way that hating your home makes you ill. Is there anyway you can move?

PearlclutchersInc · 04/02/2021 18:15

I love my home but the cheeky fuckers of renters next door have now made it a misery. In negative equity so can't sell. Considering changing to a buy-to-let and buying a tent for the duration.....

Jeez, I hate selfish, fucking twats who think they have the right to behave like inconsiderate shits.

Can you tell I'm just a mite irritated?

There`s no reason why I can`t, it`s just this lockdown crap is putting me off, plus there is still work to do on this place before I put it on the market. I`m just totally burnt out with doing diy here and I totally begrudge throwing more money at it for no return.....

That`s not actually a bad idea, they just don`t seem to me to be built to much of a decent standard nowadays, maybe it`s just my take on it? I do like the idea of everything being new, working, and FINISHED, haha!

Thanks for your post. Am sorry to hear you have been ill, hopefully all better now? We are all in the same boat - unfortunately with the house thing. I think renting for a short time is a good idea, that`s exactly what I`m going to do - it takes all the pressure off when it comes to physically moving, and you have all the time in the world to find a new house of your own. This place is my third, and both this one and the last one were quick and rushed decisions

Realistically the spring of next year, and it already is making me ill :-(

Let it out and rent a caravan somewhere.

cyclist2 · 04/02/2021 21:46

Thanks for the replies everybody, they have been strangely comforting.....

I can add a few more vital bits to my list. How could I forget the trees that are behind me? Two of them being deciduous pine trees. The leaves, crap , and pine needles just never stop - it blocks my drains, gutters, damages my car, gets into the house, if I put washing on the line it ends up full of pine needles. Ive lost count of times that Ive been outside like a drowned rat at 3am unblocking the gutters because it`s all blocked and overflowing.....grrrrrrr

3 or 4 years ago I fell in love with the idea of having a woodburner and decided to have one. This hovell has no chimney so that little project cost me nearly 5K. Anyway it was all done and was lovely for 18 months or so. Cue replacing the carpet, to the tune of another 2 grand. First time after getting the room straight and lighting the fire, 2 embers flew out of the fire and burnt 2 holes in my brand new carpet!

I had 2 wasp nests last year in the roof, and no doubt another brewing for this year......

Im actually laughing now as Im typing this because you couldn`t make it all up. Every bit of this is all gods honest truth.

No wonder my blood pressure is high

Yep, total empathy.

We have various leaks, including in the newer conservatory. Needs new bathroom, cloakroom, dining room ceiling is damp, all sorts of things, including the power tool maniacs next door. 😉

I have done many of those "how do I know when to move house" quizzes online, and always score highly! I`ve started buying things for the next house, and it`s all I can think about....

I have it badly!!

I’m with you. I moved in with dh and still stuck in a house I don’t like. This started in 2007. It’s like Trigger’s broom of a house. We’ve extended and decorated every room god knows how many times. Still hate the thing. We were meant to move after we got married, but that didn’t happen.
We had it on the market and no joy. There’s nothing wrong with it as such in an area or maintenance sense, it’s the fact that it was dh choice of house and it certainly wouldn’t be mine. I sold my house to move in with dh and we were meant to sell this. So still stuck here.
