What do you look for when viewing a rental flat?

What are red flags?

Damp or a damp smell. Or dehumidifiers

Looks like a nice property when you approach it - kerb appeal.
Somewhere you wouldn’t mind owning.
Central heating that works.
Decent kitchen you want to cook in and bathroom free from mould.
Plenty of storage in kitchen.
Everything clean, including fridge and cooker.
All white goods in kitchen being modern. No ancient cookers.
Washing machine.
Efficient extraction.
Bathroom to include shower.
Airing cupboard and/or heated towel rail.
Good locks.
Double glazing.
Clean serviceable flooring.
Nothing obviously missing or broken.
Neatly painted. Well maintained and cared for.
Serviceable light fittings and enough sockets.
Decent energy efficiency.
Safety features such as smoke alarms.
Looked after garden.
Somewhere to park car - Street not too busy
Near transport links and shops
Somewhere that feels like a home.
Walk away if it’s got lots of things waiting to be fixed. They might never get done.
