Best areas are Worth, Pound Hill, Maidenbower and then Three Bridges, Ifield. I don't know too much about Broadfield in reality, I don't think it has a great reputation but that is more anecdotally than first hand knowledge.
I know a lot of people don't think Crawley is great itself but.. its good for shopping even if the high street is a bit dated, good leisure facilities: cinema (IMAX), Tilgate Park, bowling restaurants in one place, countryside and walks easily accessible in any direction, 30 mins by train to London, less to Brighton, Gatwick on your doorstep

Broadfield has not had a great reputation historically. East side is generally better, or nearer Horsham. Unfortunately the town is suffering from fall out of the travel industry downturn.
