Worktop cover like fablon

Hi all, really exciting one here...
we have a havsta base unit from IKEA that we are planning to use for storage and extra work surface for a few years pre big kitchen refurb.
I’m looking for some kind of heat and water resistant (for cleaning) cover for the top as it’s currently just painted wood. I suggested getting some worktop cut to size but husband has vetoed this as cost would be high for what is a relatively cheap unit.

I’ve looked at fablon but It will be home to an airfryer and toaster which will both get warm underneath. Fablon is heat resistant to 80 degrees and I have no idea if this is enough.

Any thoughts on this or other affordable ideas?

Could you get a square of glass cut to size? Or have a look in b& q etc for a cheap offcut of worktop?

Or go for the fablon stuff and put a little glass chopping board under the air fryer?

There are lots of heat resistant glass worktop savers, on line. Some are as large as a single base unit top. If it’s 1000 mm get two. Cheapest option.

Silicone baking mat under the air fryer? I have a bamboo chopping board under mine.
Fablon wont stand up to chopping etc.

You can probably get a bit of worktop from fb marketplace, If you lived near me you could have some of mine - we’ve got 1.5 metres spare in the garage.

Resin?
Can be abit tricky but watch some YouTube videos of how it's done

Look on FB Marketplace - worktops come up regularly for £0-50 depending on size/type speed at which people want rid.

I use the wooden butcher block type worktop savers from Ikea. They’re great for putting down hot pans and clean really well.

I second this idea. Fablon has zero heat resistance

Look on Freeshare or similar for worktop off-cuts. You should be able to pick something for free or less than cost of fablon.
