House in Turkey...??

we are getting a small inheritance soon....often day dreaming of a place abroad for some winter sun....we look online and its full of new build flats etc in a complex...cheap at 20k ish but dont want that type...would prefer a small house with a small garden away from the tourist areas but still close to a town and a beach...anyone own anything similar to what we are looking for...?..where to look...we are learning turkish in spare time and have visited quite a lot...maybe we should just make friends with some locals and ask around..??

It may be your dream, and understandably so, but, having owned property abroad I would counsel against it. Apart from the potential political volatility of Turkey, running a property abroad is a total pain in the arse, what with maintenance, local charges, language difficulties and, if you are renting out for holiday lets, tenants. I can guarantee after 10 years you will be sick of going to the same place on holiday all the time. If you let it out, you will spend a lot of your time dealing with problems caused by your tenants (even if you have a management company). Far better to use your money to rent different lovely places for your holidays and let other people have the worry and high annual expense of caring for a property at a distance.
Probably not the answer you want, but there you are.

there is a living overseas section on here maybe ask on there as there could be people who live or have holiday accomadation in Turkey

Thanks...I have a few friends with places abroad...one uses it constantly as does her family, the other rarely goes...i was thinking of living in it most of the year eventually and wouldnt let it out...i will see if any info on the overseas boards !
