When carpeting whole house? I read somewhere that you can but I can't find it now

You’ll need the same metre squarage of underlay as carpet - if your room is 30sqm then you need that much of both. If you buy in roll then obviously you work out your cutting width and how many rolls you’ll need based on the overall coverage measurement the roll gives.

You have more flexibility with how you use underlay though, so you have less wastage, so you probably need to buy less.

You can get away with buying a bit less as it’s easier to use odd little bits/leftovers from one side of the room to fill in an alcove, that kind of thing. So you’ll have less wastage. Maybe that’s what you read about?

So , if total is 60m2 does anyone think 60, 55 or 50m2 will be sufficient? Trying to save money but don't want a disaster . .

For 60m2 of floor area you need 60m2 (at least) of underlay, otherwise you will have bare patches....... or do you mean you have 60m2 of carpet ordered, including a small amount of wastage? Honestly, for the price that underlay is I’d just get the same amount.

I think the issue you’re referring to OP is off cuts. You can cut and patch underlay, but not carpet. You need a run of carpet and only enough underlay to line the room. That said a room 4 x 4 metres will require 16m2 of both

LastStarFighter · 29/01/2021 23:50

It depends on the room shapes. If you have e.g. a room that’s 3m x 3m and the carpet you have purchased comes in 4m rolls then you will have to buy 12m2 of carpet even though the room is only 9m2. However, you will only have to buy 9m2 of underlay.

Pushing my luck here but.....anyone know of any discount codes for underlay4u?
