Moving and Internet

Has anyone moved recently and if so, did you have any problems getting Internet set up? I called a provider today and was told that during lockdown they can't visit homes so my internet can't be installed until April at the earliest. I wondered if everyone is having the same experience or it was just this company. I'm WFH and really can't be without the Internet for that long so I'm panicking now!

Why do you need an engineer? I've moved about 5 times in the last 5 years and have been switched on remotely each time, not needed an engineer.

Depends what is there already
If the house is occupied with a working line the should be able to manage without a home visit
Bt web page says most can be done , they will only cancel if the engineer needs to spend a long time in your house

Yes I wondering the same. I'm not sure why we need an engineer. Maybe they checked the phone line and it needs upgrading ?

Might be worth ringing a different supplier and see what they say?

We had this! We wanted sky in our house we moved into in April, internet and TV and the day before we moved in they told us they couldn't do it until June! No way of contacting them, so I had to go crawling back to Virgin, which we really didn't want to do because their customer service is shocking.

Is someone living in the property currently?

Bouledeneige · 28/01/2021 00:01

I'm thinking I will just try to find out who provides the internet to the current home owner and see if I can just transfer their account to mine.

Openreach are installing lines with Covid safe procedures in place. Is this a cable provider?

Ps first lockdown was different, all openreach appointments were cancelled for about three months.
